There are two things I like to do in the morning to get my day started: I like to do a 2-mile walk and enjoy a healthy smoothie afterwards. I’m not a coffee drinker, so when I’m not drinking tea, this Super Green Smoothie is my go-to.
Back when I was working in the city everyday, I discovered the High Five at Protein Bar. I loved it, but it was almost $6.00 a pop and needless to say, not something I could afford to enjoy everyday. Now that I’m working for myself and I’m not in the city as often, I decided to learn to make this at home. It saves a lot of money and I can enjoy one everyday, if I want.
It has the same key ingredients as the High Five, with a couple additions of my own: Spinach, Kale, Cilantro, Pineapple, Ice, Almond Milk and Honey.
It’s incredibly refreshing and healthy. The flavors together are really good too. I recommend tasting it as you blend everything together to see if you want to adjust the taste to your liking. I call for 1-2 cups of each, so start with 1 cup and go from there. It’s a very flexible recipe based on what you like. I tend to add a little extra pineapple to be sure there’s some sweetness within all the greens.
If you want it extra thick and smooth, use Greek Yogurt instead of the Almond Milk.

SUPER GREEN SMOOTHIE
1 cup ice
1 cup kale
1 cup spinach
1 cup cilantro
2 cups pineapple
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup almond milk
Optional: Use 1/2 cup plain Greek Yogurt instead of almond milk, if a thicker smoothie is desired.
1. Place all ingredients in a Vitamix or blender and blend until smooth.
2. Taste to be sure flavor balance is to your liking and adjust as needed.
